Get your business into the answer, not just the results.
Generative engine optimization makes your business easy for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to find, trust and cite. It's what every AImpact plan does, every month.
SEO ranks pages. GEO gets you cited.
More and more customers ask an AI assistant instead of scrolling a list of links. The assistant reads the web, picks the sources it trusts, and writes one answer. GEO is the work of making sure your business is in it.
The term comes from a research paper by teams at Princeton, Georgia Tech, the Allen Institute for AI and IIT Delhi, accepted to KDD 2024. It found that GEO methods can raise a source's visibility in AI answers by up to 40%. Read the full explainer: What is generative engine optimization?
What actually moves AI answers
The GEO study tested nine ways of rewriting content. These results shape how we write every page and release.
Statistics: +30–40%
Specific numbers beat vague claims. "4,000 roofs since 2009" gets cited; "industry-leading" doesn't.
Quotations: +30–40%
Clear statements from a named owner or expert give AI something credible to quote.
Cited sources: +30–40%
Backing claims with sources helps most. For sites ranked fifth in search, it lifted AI visibility 115%.
Keyword stuffing: no help
The old trick offered little to no improvement, and on Perplexity it did 10% worse than doing nothing.

AI trusts what others say about you.
Your own pages are half of GEO. The other half is coverage on sources AI already trusts.
Muck Rack's December 2025 analysis of more than one million links cited by AI found that about 94% came from non-paid sources, and earned media alone made up 82%. That's why every AImpact plan includes press campaigns on real news sites, written the way the research says AI prefers. More: why AI engines read the news.

Straight answers
What is generative engine optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of making a business easy for AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to find, trust and cite when they write answers. The term comes from a research paper accepted to KDD 2024.
Is GEO the same as SEO?
No, but they overlap. SEO aims to rank a page in a list of search results. GEO aims to get a business included and cited inside an AI-written answer. Google says a page must be indexed to appear in AI Overviews, so GEO builds on a solid SEO foundation. See SEO isn't dead. It's how AI finds you.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No. AI companies don't sell spots in their organic answers, and nobody controls what they say. GEO improves the evidence AI relies on, and we track the results honestly every month. Read how to rank in ChatGPT: an honest guide.
How long does GEO take to work?
Press placements usually go live within days, but AI engines pick up new sources over the following weeks. Most businesses see the clearest movement after two to three months of steady work.
What does GEO cost?
GEO is included in every AImpact plan, month-to-month, together with the SEO foundation, press campaigns, cloud stacks and AI visibility tracking. See current plans and pricing.
