Key takeaways
- There are three main types: national newswires, lower-cost distribution networks, and managed campaigns that include writing.
- Published prices start around $149 for one release; PR Newswire distribution through a reseller starts at $399 (October 2026).
- Ask for example links, whether pages are indexed, and who writes the release before comparing prices.
- Avoid any service selling keyword-anchor links: Google treats them as link spam in distributed releases.
Search for "best press release distribution service" and you'll find dozens of lists, many written by the services themselves. Rather than another ranking, here's how to compare services yourself, so you can pick the right one for your goals and budget.
The three types of distribution
| Type | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| National newswires | Broad distribution to media outlets and wire partners; pricing often by region, word count and add-ons | Public companies, major announcements |
| Distribution networks | Lower-cost publication across partner news sites; you usually supply the release | Businesses that write their own releases |
| Managed campaigns | Writing, approval, publication on selected outlets and a report of live links | Small businesses that want it done for them |
Real published prices
Some services publish their rates. On October 18, 2026, EIN Presswire listed a single release at $149, 5 releases at $499 and 15 at $999. eReleases, which distributes through Cision PR Newswire, listed packages at $399, $499 and $699. Some of the largest wires don't publish standard rates and quote by request. For more on what drives the price, see how much a press release costs.
Seven questions to compare services
- Where exactly will it appear? Ask for live example links from recent releases, not just a logo wall.
- Are those pages indexed? Some outlets mark press pages noindex. They can add credibility but won't show up in search.
- Which outlets are guaranteed? "Up to 400 sites" and "guaranteed placement on [named outlet]" are very different promises.
- Who writes it? Many prices assume you supply a finished release. Writing that follows the standard press release format matters for pickup and for AI.
- What report do you get? A list of live URLs (clippings) lets you verify and share every placement.
- How are links handled? Google's spam policies list keyword-optimized anchor-text links in distributed press releases as link spam. Avoid any service that sells releases as a link-building tactic.
- What's the real total? Add writing, extra words, images and premium outlets to the base price.
Why the outlets matter more than the count
AI assistants increasingly read and cite news coverage. Muck Rack's December 2025 report found about 82% of AI-cited links came from earned media, and press release citations in AI answers grew five-fold in the second half of 2025. A release on a smaller number of trusted, indexed news sites can do more for your visibility than a mass blast to sites nobody reads. (More on what premium placements do.)
Where AImpact fits
AImpact is a managed option. We don't sell one-off releases; every plan is a monthly program that includes writing, your approval, publication across the news channels in your plan (up to USA Today, TheStreet and Street Insider on higher tiers), a report of every live link, plus cloud stacks, an AI-ready SEO foundation and AI visibility tracking.
