Key takeaways
- Drivers ask AI about trust, fair prices and which shop handles their make or insurance.
- Clear cost explanations and service pages give AI specific facts to repeat for price questions.
- Certifications, warranties and years in business stated exactly build the trust AI looks for.
- The FTC Act requires truthful advertising with evidence: no bait pricing or unsupported "lowest price" claims.
Few purchases make people more nervous than car repairs. Drivers want an honest shop and a fair price, and increasingly they ask AI: "most honest mechanic near me?" "How much should brakes cost?" Shops and dealerships that answer clearly and have a credible reputation are the ones AI names.
What drivers ask AI
- Trust: "Most honest mechanic in [city]?"
- Price: "How much should brake replacement cost?" "Is this repair quote fair?"
- Fit: "Which shops near me specialize in European cars?" "Body shops that work with my insurance?"
- Buying: "Best place to buy a used truck near me?"
1. Explain prices honestly
Price questions are where shops can stand out. A page explaining what a brake job involves, what parts and labor typically cost, and what makes the price vary gives AI specific facts to repeat. Research on AI answers found statistics raised a source's visibility by roughly 30-40% (KDD 2024).
2. Show what you specialize in
Pages for each major service and the makes you know best (EV, diesel, European, trucks). For body shops, list the insurers you work with. For dealerships, separate pages for sales, service and parts.
3. State your proof exactly
Certifications (for example ASE), warranties, years in business, how estimates and approvals work. Specific, checkable facts are what AI repeats; "best service in town" is not.
4. Keep advertising honest
The FTC Act requires that advertising be truthful and non-deceptive and that advertisers have evidence for their claims. Avoid bait pricing, unsupported "lowest price" claims, and any advertised price that isn't actually available as stated.
5. Earn local coverage and let AI crawl
About 82% of AI-cited links come from earned media (Muck Rack, Dec 2025). Good stories: new certifications or technicians, seasonal car care tips, community events and sponsorships, and new locations or service lines. Also make sure AI crawlers like PerplexityBot aren't blocked, so your pages can appear in AI search results. (See how Perplexity chooses what to cite.)
Check the results
Ask AI your customers' questions monthly and record which shops are named and which sources are cited.
