Key takeaways
- PR Newswire and Business Wire are the two best-known US national wires; PR Newswire's products page lists no standard prices.
- Published alternatives (October 2026): EIN Presswire from $149, PRWeb $120-$480, Newswire.com $399-$965 per release.
- Some "alternatives" still use PR Newswire's network: eReleases distributes through Cision PR Newswire and PRWeb syndication is powered by PR Newswire.
- Compare where your release will actually appear, whether pages are indexed, and who writes it, not just the price.
PR Newswire is one of the best-known names in press release distribution, and for large public-company announcements it's often the default. But plenty of businesses look for alternatives, usually because of price or because they're not sure what they're paying for. Here are the main options, with the prices the services publish themselves.
PR Newswire vs Business Wire
PR Newswire (part of Cision) and Business Wire are the two best-known US national newswires. Both serve public companies, investor relations and major announcements, and both are typically priced by quote, depending on region, length and add-ons. PR Newswire's products page didn't list standard prices when we checked on October 18, 2026. If you're choosing between the two, ask both for a quote on the same release (same length, region and media) and for example links from recent releases in your industry.
Alternatives with published prices
These prices come from each service's own pricing page, checked October 18, 2026. Promotions change, so confirm before buying.
| Service | Published price | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| EIN Presswire | $149 for 1 release; $499 for 5; $999 for 15 | Lowest single-release price of the group |
| PRWeb | $120, $245, $360 or $480 per release | A Cision company; higher tiers syndicate to a network "powered by PRNewswire" |
| eReleases | $399, $499 or $699 | Distributes through Cision PR Newswire |
| Newswire.com | $399, $659 or $965 per release; $599 for a single state | Higher tiers list AP News distribution |
Notice that some "alternatives" still reach readers through PR Newswire's network. That can be a good thing (similar reach for less), but it's worth knowing what you're buying.
How to choose
- Start with the goal. Investor disclosure needs a national wire; local visibility and AI citations usually don't.
- Ask for example links. Where did recent releases actually appear?
- Check indexing. Pages marked noindex won't show up in search, though they can still add credibility.
- Who writes it? Most prices assume you supply the release. See how to write one AI will cite or use our free template.
- Add up the real total: writing, extra words, images and premium outlets. (More in how much a press release costs.)
A different kind of alternative
If your goal is visibility with customers and in AI answers, rather than investor disclosure, a managed program may fit better than buying releases one at a time. AImpact's PR campaigns include the writing, your approval, publication across the news channels in your plan (up to USA Today, TheStreet and Street Insider on higher tiers) and a report of every live link, plus an AI-ready SEO foundation and AI visibility tracking, month-to-month.
