How insurance agencies get recommended by AI

Key takeaways

  • Shoppers ask AI coverage questions first; agencies that explain coverage clearly get named when shoppers ask who to call.
  • Separate pages for each line you write, with who it's for, help AI match the right shopper to you.
  • The FTC Act requires advertising to be truthful and non-deceptive, with evidence for claims; states regulate insurance too.
  • Local coverage and community involvement give AI independent reasons to recommend your agency.

Insurance shoppers have a lot of questions before they're ready to talk to an agent: what coverage they need, what a policy doesn't cover, how to lower a premium. More and more, they ask AI. Agencies that answer those questions well become the ones AI suggests when the shopper asks who to call.

What shoppers ask AI

  • "Do I need umbrella insurance?"
  • "What does homeowners insurance not cover?"
  • "Which agencies near me write insurance for contractors?"
  • "Best independent insurance agent in [city]?"

1. A page for every line you write

Home, auto, life, business, umbrella and specialty lines each deserve their own page explaining who needs it, what it typically covers and excludes, and how you help. Specific audiences (contractors, restaurants, landlords, young drivers) help AI match the right shopper to you.

2. Explain coverage honestly

Balanced explainers that cover exclusions and trade-offs are what AI is most comfortable quoting. Research on AI answers found statistics, quotations and cited sources raised visibility by roughly 30-40% (KDD 2024), so a licensed agent explaining a coverage question in their own words, with a real example, is more citable than a generic overview.

3. Keep every claim truthful

The FTC Act requires that "advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive," that "advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims," and that ads "cannot be unfair." Insurance is also regulated state by state. Practical rules:

  • No general "save hundreds" claims without evidence.
  • No implying coverage a policy doesn't provide.
  • State licensing and carrier appointments accurately.
  • Follow your carriers' marketing guidelines.

4. Be part of the community story

About 82% of AI-cited links come from earned media (Muck Rack, Dec 2025). Good agency stories: seasonal guidance (storm prep, wildfire season, teen drivers), a new producer or location, community sponsorships and events, and plain-language explainers when rates or rules change.

5. Stay consistent

The same agency name, agents, address and phone across your site, Google Business Profile, carrier "find an agent" listings and directories.
